Important positions: Deputy Chief of Joint Staff for Resources, Chief of the Cabinet of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Srpska nad Chief of Department for status issues in Republic of Srpska Army General Staff.

 Competencies

Chief of Joint Staff of the Armed Forces has the following competencies within the chain of command, under the supreme command and control of the Presidency:
• serves as military advisor to the Presidency and Minister of Defense,
• ensures the operational preparedness of the Armed Forces,
• issues orders in accordance with the competencies of the Joint Staff,
• oversees and ensures the execution of directives and orders of the Minister of Defense,
• provides recommendations and opinions to the Minister of Defense in connection with the improvement and appointments of personnel in the rank of Colonels, Brigadiers and Generals,
• represents Bosnia and Herzegovina in matters of defense at all international organizations and in all countries at the level of the Chief of Joint Staff - Chief of Defense
• directs, oversees and is responsible for the activity of the Joint Staff personnel.

Serving in such capacity, Chief of Joint Staff shall have the rank of Major General and shall be an officer with the highest rank in the armed forces
