Military support to civil protection in BiH assisted by NHQSa
During 9-10 November NHQSa hosted a workshop in Mostar for a working group consisting of experts from the BiH Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Security. The workshop was held to give these experts a forum to draft procedures for the engagement of the Armed Forces of BiH (AFBiH) in support of Civil Authorities.
Although the working group was relatively small, the outcome of their work will have profound significance for the ability of the AFBiH to help protect citizens and property in BiH in emergency situations. Such situations may include terrorist attacks, floods, earthquakes, and even wild fires, like those that haunted BiH during the summer of 2006. The procedures that were drafted in Mostar will ensure better coordination of faster and more focussed engagements of AFBiH in support of civilian authorities.
The procedures will now be submitted for approval by the two relevant ministers and are expected implemented via joint exercises from this winter.
