The Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina ready for the final evaluation of NATO's Operational Capability Concept

8/24/2022

From 19 to 23 September 2022 at the military training ground "Manjača", more than 800 members of the Infantry Light Battalion Group (INF-L-BG) of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina will carry out a five-day exercise "Combined Effort 22" with the aim of it's evaluation according to the NATO Operational Capability Concept – NEL 2.

Through the implementation of the  exercise "Combined Effort 22", the evaluation NEL 2 represents the final training activity of the declared units within the four-year training plan, with the aim of gaining interoperability and readiness to work according to NATO standards. If successful, by the end of 2023 the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina will have a ready INF-L-BG disposed for the NATO pool of forces, intended for future peace operations in the world, as well as for participation in NATO exercises.

Through the exercise, 20 evaluators from 11 NATO and partner countries, as well as 50 evaluators from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will check the ability and readiness of INF-L-BG members, according to NATO standards.

In 2018, the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina declared the INF-L-BG, with the aim of achieving interoperability and combat readiness with the armed forces of NATO members. Since 2019, the declared units have successfully passed three levels of assessment SEL-1 and SEL-2 (by the evaluators from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina) and NEL-1 (by the evaluators from NATO's and partner countries).

The concept of operational capabilities is a program that builds, achieves and verifies the interoperability and operational capability of declared units for participation in NATO-led operations.

If successful, INF-L-BG AFBIH will join more than 13,000 troops from 15 partner countries to complete the programme.
